Men?s Soccer defeats Lander 2-0 in Final Exhibition Match

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Georgia Southern’s Men’s Soccer team defeated Lander 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the final tune up game before the start of the regular season.

Just one day after having to settle for a tie against North Georgia the Eagles displayed an impressive performance against Lander.

“I’m proud with how our players responded after having to settle for a tie in our last game. We had a really good game today and we passed the ball well,” said head coach Kevin Kennedy.

Danny Hall (Conyers, Ga.) scored the first goal of the game in the first half of action.

Senior, Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) put the game out of reach with a goal in the second half of play.

Chris Cantrell (Savannah, Ga.) saw his first action of the season playing 60 minutes in the cage.

Zach Buckley (Statesboro, Ga.) backed up Cantrell and helped preserve the shutout.

When asked about using all four goalies in the three exhibition games coach Kennedy had this to say, “We played all four goalies this weekend to get a chance to see all of them in action and try to establish the pecking order for them.”

The men’s soccer team is getting ready for their trip to Tulsa this Friday (Aug. 29). The game will be the season opener for the Eagles, scheduled for 7 p.m.
