Men?s Soccer to Host First Round of SoCon Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team will host the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament at Eagle Field Sunday at noon. The Eagles received the three seed and will face the number six seed Davidson.

"We're excited to have the opportunity to host a first round game in the Southern Conference Tournament," stated head coach Kevin Kennedy. "We have a great deal of respect for the Davidson program, and I'm confident that Coach Spear will have his team prepared for our match. I feel that we really need to have a special performance this weekend to be successful in this match."

Georgia Southern, winners of three straight and four of the last five matches in conference play, enters the matchup against Davidson with a 7-8-0 (4-3-0) record.

 

The Eagles rank fourth in goals, third in assists and fourth in points in conference-only games.

 

The Georgia Southern defense ranks fifth in goals against average and is allowing only 1.38 goals per match.

 

Davidson comes to Statesboro with a 4-13-1 (2-5-0) record. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in overtime on November 1st. Georgia Southern got scores from two different defenders en route to the win.

 

Davidson’s offense ranks seventh in goals scored, fifth in assists and seventh in points in conference-only matches.

 

The Wildcats defense has allowed 1.55 goals per match in conference matches.

 

The winner of the match will face the winner of the Furman / UNC Greensboro match November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
