Stetson Edges Men?s Soccer in 1-0 Decision

DELAND, Fla. – The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team was edged by non-conference opponent Stetson, 1-0, in the regular season finale, Tuesday night (Nov. 6) at Stetson Soccer Complex.

The Eagles conclude the regular season with a 6-11-0 overall record while the Hatters finish up their season at 11-4-2.

Junior midfielder Scott DeVault (Woodstock, Ga.) produced one of the team’s best scoring opportunities in the fourth minute, but his shot on target was stopped by Hatter keeper Evan White.

Stetson notched the game’s lone goal in the 23rd minute after Robert Hodge headed a corner kick pass by Arthur Prescott into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

The Hatters led the Eagles in shots 5-2 at the break, while both teams tallied three corner kicks apiece.

The Eagles were unable to rally back from a 1-0 deficit while Stetson held on for the win, tying up the 23-game all-time series at 10-10-3.

Stetson led the Eagles in total shots 11-4, while Georgia Southern edged the Hatters in corner kicks, 7-6.

Goalkeeper Brian Young (Roswell, Ga.) played full-time in the cage, making three saves.  Hatter keeper Evan White earned the shutout victory making one save on the day.

After the short break in Southern Conference play, the No. 7 seed Eagles will set their sights on the first round of the SoCon tournament versus No. 2 seed College of Charleston.  The match will be hosted by the Cougars and is slated for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Patriots Point Stadium in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
