Men?s Soccer Continues Their Five Game Homestand against USC Upstate

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer team is set to take on USC Upstate in the third game of their five game homestand.

 

The Eagles (1-4-0) are seeking their second win of the season against the Spartans.

 

Georgia Southern’s lone victory of the season came against Clemson (9/5), when Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) scored both goals in the Eagles’ 2-1 victory over the Tigers.

 

Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) leads the Eagles in assists and Smith is the leading scorer, with two goals scored off of five shots on goal.

 

Joey Ralph (Martinez, Ga.) has started four of the five games in the cage for the Eagles. He possesses a 1.50 goals against average and has 20 saves on the season.

 

The Eagles lost to Jacksonville (9/21) 2-0 in their most recent match.

 

Cox had the Eagles best opportunity to score in the match against the Dolphins, when he headed a ball off a corner kick towards the right side of the net, but the goalie made a jumping save to prevent the score.

 

USC Upstate is 1-5-0 on the season. The Spartans lone victory came in the first match of the season against Brewton-Parker College (8/29) in a 3-2 decision.

 

Erkan Yildirim, David Stanbra, Chad McCoy and Alex Garcev have all scored a goal for USC Upstate and are tied for the team lead in that category.

 

Patrick Regna has started five matches in goal for the Spartans and has made 31 saves on the season.

 

Georgia Southern has faced USC Upstate only once and that match came last season with the Eagles winning in overtime 1-0.

 

The Spartans have faced two SoCon opponents and have lost both matches.

 

Wofford defeated USC Upstate on Friday 2-0 and Furman beat the Spartans on Sunday 5-0.

 

The match is set to kickoff at 4 pm on Wednesday at Eagle Field.
