Men's Soccer Loses in Penalty Shootout to UNC Greensboro 3-2

Davidson, N.C. - The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team holds UNC Greensboro scoreless for 110 minutes but lost in a shootout 3-2 in the Southern Conference Finals in Davidson, N.C. Saturday Night.

 

The Eagles (8-8-1, 4-3-0 SoCon) outshot the Spartans eight to six in the first half but were unable to score. B.J. Reine (Baton Rouge, La.) took four of his six shots in the first half of action. Reine finished the game with six shots and a shot on goal.

 

Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) took a pair of shots in the 28th minute, but both were blocked by UNC Greensboro defenders.

 

Joey Ralph (Evans, Ga.) made a pair of saves in the 28th and 29th minute of action. He finished the match with nine saves.

 

In the second half Ralph made two early saves in the 49th and 55th minute of play.

 

Austin Steele (Kennesaw, Ga.) took a shot on goal in the 59th minute.

 

The match headed to overtime with a score of 0-0.

 

Tim Masters took two shots on goal in the first overtime period, but Ralph stopped both of them.

 

The two teams traded shots on goal in the second overtime period, but neither team was able to score. The match proceeded to a shootout. Both teams missed their first and fourth shot attempts.  Both teams made their second shot attempt. The difference came in the third shot attempt when Masters made his shot, but Cox missed his shot.

 

UNC Greensboro advances to the SoCon Finals with 3-2 shootout win.
