Men?s Soccer is set to Host North Florida in Home Opener

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer team is preparing for its home opener against the North Florida Ospreys.

 

The Eagles come into this match with a 1-2-0 record, while the Ospreys bring in a 1-4-0 record after losing to Bradley, Sunday.

 

Georgia Southern lost 2-0 to Campbell on Saturday. The Eagles' lone victory on the season came against Clemson (9/5), when Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) scored both goals in the Eagles’ 2-1 victory over the Tigers.

 

Preseason All-SoCon member, Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.), picked up two shots, one of which was on goal, Saturday.

 

Cox leads the Eagles in assists and Smith is the leading scorer, with two goals scored off of five shots.

 

Joey Ralph (Martinez, Ga.) has started all three games in the cage for the Eagles. He possesses a 1.67 goals against average and has 14 saves on the season.

 

North Florida is coming off a 2-0 loss to Bradley on Sunday.

 

Their only win of the season came in two overtimes over Gardner-Webb (9/7).

 

Akil DeFreitas is one of five players to start all five games for North Florida and has scored one goal off of 13 shots.

 

Adam O’Neill and Mikhail Awai have both started four games and also scored a goal.

 

Tony Restino has started all five games in goal for the Ospreys. He possesses a 1.70 goals against average and has picked up 27 saves on the season.

 

Ray Bunch is in his 18th season as head coach at North Florida. He sports a 141-131-21 record.

 

The Ospreys return 14 letterwinners and eight starters off of last year’s team that went 8-9-0.

 

The match is set to start at 4 pm on Wednesday.
