Eagles Wrap Up Road Trip At North Florida
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team will conclude its four-game road trip Wednesday, September 15 in Jacksonville, Fla., against North Florida at 7 p.m.
The Eagles enter the contest with a 1-2-1 record after posting a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Sunday (Sept. 12) against Radford in the final round of the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational hosted by High Point University.
David Leonard (Augusta, Ga.) scored his first goal of the season, evening the match in the 79th minute. Goalkeeper Ryan Platt (Preston, England) made 12 saves, including four in the first overtime. The junior transfer has 28 saves in four games.
Leonard became the fifth Eagle to score a goal this season. Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) leads the team with a pair of goals, and five different Eagles have an assist.
North Florida is 0-2 after starting the season at Alabama-Birmingham's "Soccer for a Cure" Classic, falling to Memphis (6-0) and UAB (4-1). Adam O'Neil scored the Ospreys' lone goal of the tournament, finding the back of the net with just over five minutes left against UAB.
Georgia Southern has faced North Florida seven times, with the all-time series knotted at 3-3-1. The winning differential has not been greater than one goal since Georgia Southern took a 5-2 victory in the first match of the series on Sept. 22, 1991. The last three matches have ended with a score of 1-0, with the Eagles winning in 2007 and 2009, while North Florida won in 2008. The 2005 contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
