Men?s Soccer to Host Appalachian State, Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team will entertain Appalachian State, Saturday, Oct. 20 at Eagle Field.  The Southern Conference dual is slated for noon, as part of Youth Day festivities.

Georgia Southern (5-8-0, 1-3-0) and SoCon foe Appalachian State (6-5-2, 2-2-0) have met on 21 occasions with Appalachian State claiming a 12-9 advantage.  In the last meeting between the schools, the Eagles garnered a 2-0 victory in Boone during the middle of the 2006 season.  The last time Appalachian State defeated the Eagles was in 2005 in a 3-2 (OT) decision.

The Eagles are coming off a 3-2 home loss against Davidson.  Georgia Southern is led by freshman Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) and junior Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) who share the team lead in goals with three a piece.  Smith leads the team in assists with four, while Clendening has two to go along with his team high 18 shots.  Smith leads the team in points with 10.  Senior keeper Brian Young (Roswell, Ga.) enters the match against Appalachian State with 27 saves and a 3-3 record, punching his time card at 534:44 minutes in the cage.

The Mountaineers lost their last match to No. 17 Furman, 1-0.  ASU is led on offense by Sean Sassano with 14 points, including five goals and four assists.  McCoy Livingston follows behind with 10 points, which includes five goals.  Goalkeeper Greg Walters is coming in with 34 saves.  He has registered 856:54 minutes in goal this season for the Mountaineers.

Georgia Southern will travel to Greensboro, N.C., Saturday, October 26 for a 18 p.m. match. The game is scheduled to be broadcast by Fox Soccer Channel.
