Men’s Soccer Gets Off the Mark With 0-0 Draw at Appalachian St.

BOONE, N.C. – Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer snapped an eight-game losing streak on Tuesday night with 0-0 draw at Appalachian State. Both teams were unable to score on the crisp fall evening in the High Country as Eagle goalkeeper Neal Bates recorded his first clean sheet of the season.

“I was proud of the guys tonight; they really defended well on set pieces, and that was a very good step forward for us after Saturday’s match at Davidson,” said head coach Kevin Kennedy. “Appalachian State was very well organized and committed tonight. Boone is a tough place to go to and get a result, but now we’re looking forward to coming home and playing our first match under the lights on Friday.”

The Eagles earned their first point in Southern Conference play this season against the Mountaineers, avenging last year’s 2-1 loss at home. GSU improves to 2-9-1 overall and 0-1-1 in SoCon play while Appalachian State moves to 4-6-2 and 0-2-1 in the league.

Georgia Southern was out-shot by the Mountaineers 14-7 with Bates being forced to make five saves in the match.

The Eagles return home on Friday night for the first night game at Eagle Field as Elon comes to Statesboro for the 7 p.m. contest under the lights.
