Hunter Norton Named Preseason All-SoCon

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern’s Hunter Norton has been named to the 2012 SoCon Men’s Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team following a vote of the league’s head coaches. The Eagle squad was also picked sixth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll with Southern earning a first place vote.

The Eagles’ junior captain finished the 2011 season with four goals and two assists, earning First Team All-SoCon Honors. On his career he has six goals on 54 career shots. Last year, Norton started all 17 games for the Eagles in midfield, scoring the game-winning goal against Belmont on September 9th.

The Eagles finished with a 4-3 conference record in 2011, placing third in the Southern Conference regular season standings after leading the league for much of the campaign. Southern returns four of its top-five goalscorers from last season.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team or players in the balloting.

The Eagles open the 2012 preseason on Friday afternoon with a 6:15 p.m. match at Eagle Field against Darton. GSU faces Lander in the final preseason match, Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. The regular season starts on Sunday, August 25th against UAB.
