Men?s Soccer?s Defeats Wofford 1-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team defeated the Wofford Terriers 1-0 Saturday night in Spartanburg, S.C.

 

Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) scored a second half goal in the 62nd minute of play. He nailed a sliding shot from 18 yards out for his fifth goal of the season.

 

The Eagles improve to 5-7-0 (2-3-0), while the Terriers fall to 5-10 (1-4).

Wofford started the match with a couple of shots including one on goal.

 

Georgia Southern, on the other hand, managed only one shot in the first on a header by Jon Kinsler (Ormond Beach, Fla.).

 

The Eagles came out of halftime and immediately attacked the net. Fredrik Langseth (Lorenskog, Norway) took a shot that was on target in the 46th minute, but Thomas Hunter stepped in to make the save for Wofford.

 

Langseth took another shot on goal in the 55th, but Hunter made another save.

 

The Eagles took nine shots in the second half. Joe Madigan (Centennial, Colo.), Mark Beville (Apopka, Fla.), Smith, Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Langseth all had shots on goal in the second half.

 

The Eagles return to action Tuesday against Mercer at 4 p.m. at Eagle Field.
