Lethem Nabs SoCon Men's Golfer of the Month Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Drew Lethem was named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for all competition during the month of April. The Eagle becomes the third this season to be given the honor as both Joe Monte and Logan Blondell received the award earlier this season.

Within the two tournaments Georgia Southern competed in during the month, the senior Camdenton, Missouri native made Georgia Southern men’s golf history. Lethem became the second Eagle in program history to take the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship individual crown. His opening round of 6-under par automatically placed him in the record books as one of the lowest rounds in GSU history. The Eagle then followed his opening round with consecutive even-par 72s for a tournament total 6-under 210, putting him in first place of the SoCon leader board.

Prior to the Championship, Lethem helped lead the golf team to an 11th place finish at the Augusta State Invitational. The Eagle fired a 2-over 218 for the tournament to tie for 47th place.

“Drew had an excellent month and was very deserving of player of the month. His play at conference was great, especially his run of 6-under on five holes. That 66 in the tournament was special to watch,” said head coach Larry Mays. “We are looking for big things from him to finish off his career here in the next few weeks. We are very proud of him.”

For the month, Lethem carded a 71.33 stroke average, shot his collegiate career lowest opening round with a 66 and recorded his lowest 54-hole tournament total in his 210. Lethem’s title at the SoCon Tournament marked his first collegiate career win.

The player of the month is selected by a vote of the men’s golf conference sports information directors.

The Georgia Southern golf team is back in action next week after earning an NCAA bid to the Regionals. The Eagles travel to Sorrento, Florida to compete on the Red Tail Golf Club for a spot in the NCAA Championship. Regional competition begins Thursday, May 14 and concludes Saturday, May 16.
