Georgia Southern in Second after Day One at Mizuno Southbridge
SAVANNAH, Ga. The Georgia Southern golf team finished up the first day of competition in second place, Monday evening (Oct. 15), at the par-72, 6,922 yard Mizuno Southbridge Intercollegiate at the Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
GSU shot a season-low 284 in the second round and finished the day carding a 6-under 570. Winthrop finished the day nine strokes better and leads the 15-team field with a 15-under 561. Winthrop recorded the day’s two lowest rounds of 18 with a 281 in the first round and a 280 in the second.
Leading all individuals is Winthrop’s Kelly Manders who shot a 7-under 137 on the day.
Just one stroke behind is Georgia Southern freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) who sits tied for second place after carding a team-best 6-under 138. He tied his career low shooting a 70 in the first round, then finished the second round with an eagle on the 18th, setting a career-low 4-under 68.
Junior Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished the day tied for fifth place after shooting a 4-under 140, thanks to a pair of solid rounds at 2-under 70.
Classmate Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) followed with a 1-over 145 which included a 2-under 70 in the second round, and sits tied for 18th, while sitting two strokes behind is junior Ryan Zabroske (Alpharetta, Ga.) at 3-over 147 and is tied for 29th place
Sophomore Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.) finished up his first two rounds of the season shooting an 8-over 152 along with individual competitor Joe Monte (Chantilly, Va.), both finished tied for 53rd place. Also competing individually was sophomore Matt Deal (Statesboro, Ga.) who shot a 12-over 156.
Tuesday’s tee times are set to begin on holes 1 and 10 at 8 a.m. The Eagles will begin their third round at 9:30. End of day results and recap will be posted on www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com.
