Golf Concludes First Round at SoCon Championship

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Georgia Southern golf team finished the first of three rounds of competition, Sunday, at the Southern Conference Championship tournament played at the par-72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

The Eagles were paced by junior Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) who shot a 3-over 75. He sits tied for 21st place and is six shots behind individual leader Nathan Stamey of UNC Greensboro (-3).

Georgia Southern played well on the front nine and made the turn among the top three. But after a tough stretch down the back nine, the Eagles slipped down the leaderboard, ending the first day in seventh place with a 16-over 304.

No. 17 Chattanooga leads the 10-team field at 2-over 290. College of Charleston and Furman sit one stroke behind the leader at 3-over 291.

Freshman Joe Monte (Chantilly, Va.) and sophomore Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.) finished up the day shooting a 4-over 76, tying for 27th place.

Freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) carded a 5-over 77 (T-43), while junior Jordan Johnstun (Evans, Ga.) shot a 7-over 79 (T-41).

Round two tee times for the Eagles begin at 8:40 a.m., Monday.
