Zabroske Leads Eagles After Round One of Golfweek Conference Challenge

RIVERSIDE, Iowa – After the first round of competition at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, senior Ryan Zabroske leads the Georgia Southern golf team carding a two-over par 74 at the Blue Top Ridge Golf Course. The tournament, which hosts 15 teams from 15 different conferences, plays 18 holes over the course of three days, concluding on Tuesday, September 1.

The Eagles find themselves in14th place at 18-over 306 after the first 18-holes of competition, while Baylor (8-under 280) holds a five-stroke advantage of second-place Middle Tennessee State. Baylor’s Payne Gniewek, Xavier’s Sebastian Maclean and Middle Tennessee State’s Jason Millard are tied for first place in the individual standings after shooting identical scores of four-under par 68.

As a team, Georgia Southern tallied 10 birdies, led by sophomore Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) and senior Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C.), who carded three apiece.

Senior Eagle Zabroske turned at even-par after expunging a bogey on hole two with a birdie on eight. With an even card, the Alpharetta, Ga. native finished at two-over from the back nine. Zabroske is tied for 30th in the individual standings.

Fulford and sophomore Joe Monte (Chantilly, Va.) shot identical opening rounds of 5-over 77s. Fulford excelled on the back nine, where he recorded three birdies for a 1-under 35. Fulford and Monte are tied for 55th place after the first round.

Blondell shot a 6-over par 78 to stand in a tie for 60th while teammate Matt Deal (Statesboro, Ga.) carded a 7-over 79 for a 62nd-place tie.

The second round of competition opens on Monday, August 31, at 8 a.m. Georgia Southern tees off on the back nine beginning at 9 a.m. with Matt Deal. Fans can follow all the action at www.GolfStat.com.
