Blondell Earns SoCon Golfer of the Week Honors
Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) paced Georgia Southern with a 6-under 210 in an Eagle comeback to a fifth place team finish at the GSU-hosted and 29th Annual Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, Sunday (Mar. 16). Blondell fired the lowest score of the final day, a 4-under 68, in a field that included 12 of the top 50 ranked schools in the nation.
“He is very focused on what he does,” said head coach Larry Mays. “He’s very mature as a freshman and that’s one of the things that stands out about him. He plays with a game plan. He doesn’t let what is going on around him affect him or his game plan.”
Individually, he finished in third place overall which is GSU’s best individual finish since Jon David Kennedy tied for first place in 2005. It is also GSU’s best individual score since 1989 Schenkel E-Z-GO medalist Richie Bryant shot an 8-under 208.
It was Blondell’s second top-three finish on the season.
