Georgia Southern Travels to Mason Rudolph Championships

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Golf team continues its fall campaign on Friday, September 23, at it travels to Franklin, Tennessee for the Mason Rudolph Championships. The three-day tournament will be hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Vanderbilt Legends Club and action will take place on the par-71, 7,100 yard South Course.

The field will include some of the best Division I teams from the southeast and will be another early test for the Eagles.

"We've had a good week and a half of practice since our opening tournament," said Head Coach Larry Mays. "We worked on some of our problem areas from Florence and are looking forward to putting that hard work to good use this weekend."

The Eagles are coming off a tenth place finish in their season opener, where they were led by freshmen Scott Wolfes (St. Simons Island, Ga.) and Charlie Martin (LaGrange, Ga.) who both posted a 1-under 215 in their first collegiate tournament. After shooting 300 (+12) in the opening round, the Eagles responded by carding a 282 (-6) in round two, but dropped eight strokes in the final three holes of competition to finish at 873 (+9) for the tournament.

"I think some of the guys tried to force things last week," said Mays. "We need to go out there, display better patience and the good scores will happen."

This year's field will include defending tournament champion Memphis, SEC foes Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Akron, Belmont, MTSU, Georgia State and Southern Conference opponents Western Carolina, Samford, Davidson and the College of Charleston.
