Golf Completes Day One of Gopher Invitational
WAYZATA, Minn. The Georgia Southern golf team opened up the 2007-2008 season today and concluded its first day of competition at the Gopher Invitational, held at the 7,020-yard, par-72 Spring Hill Golf Club.
The 12-team field played two rounds today amid cooler-than-average temperatures. Leading the Eagles with a tie for 24th place is junior Drew Lethem (Camdenton, Mo.) who shot a six-over 150. Lethem shot the team’s low 18 on the day, a 74 in the first round.
Wisconsin’s Danny Zimmerman and Dan Woltman hold the first and second places on the individual leaderboard with an eight-under 136 and a three-under 141, respectively.
Freshmen Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) and Joe Monte (Chantilly, Va.) competed in their first collegiate competition today. Blondell notched a 12-over 156 and sits tied for 49th place, while Monte holds 51st place just one stroke behind.
As a team, the Eagles carded a 45-over 621 and currently sit in 11th place ahead of Princeton by 19 strokes.
Leading the pack is Lamar carding an even-par 576, six strokes ahead of Wisconsin. Lamar was ranked No. 16 by the Golf World/Nike coaches pre-season poll going into the tournament.
Sunday’s final round tee times will begin at 8 a.m.
