Georgia Southern Golf Travels to Rod Myers Invitational

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Golf team continues its fall campaign on Saturday, October 1, at it travels to Durham, North Carolina for the Rod Myers Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be hosted by Duke University and will play as a 7,136 yard, par 72 at the Duke University Golf Club.

Georgia Southern is coming off of a third place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championships where the team shot 4-under par (848) to finish four strokes behind first-place Middle Tennessee State. The Eagles placed four individuals in the top 21, including senior Lewis Gruber (Tallahassee, Fla.) who placed fifth at 4-under par and freshman Scott Wolfes (St. Simons Island, Ga.), who finished one stroke back to tie for sixth.

"Last week we were the only team to shoot par or better all three rounds," said Head Coach Larry Mays. "In the last round we had all five players in the mix against a very strong field."

The Eagles will face strong competition again this weekend, including teams from Duke, Iowa, Baylor, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee and Tulsa.

"I love the chemistry this team is building and look for these guys to go out and give us another great effort," said Mays. "Duke has assembled a great field and we will need to put three more solid rounds on the scoreboard if we want another good finish," said Mays.
