Eagle Golf Tied for 8th at Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia Southern golf team finished up the first day of competition at the Shoal Creek Invitation played at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club (Sep. 24), marking the second tournament of the 2007-2008 season.

After two rounds, the Eagles share eighth place with LSU in a field of 12 schools, and hold a lead over Michigan State, Nevada and Vanderbilt going into Tuesday’s final round.  Georgia Southern carded a 20-over 596, while Texas Tech is leading the board with a 2-over 578, five strokes better than runner-up UAB.

The Eagles are led by junior Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.), both carding a 3-over 147 and sitting tied for 16th place.  LeFevre’s 2-under 70 in the second round was the team-low 18 so far in the tournament.  Blondell’s 1-under 71 in the second round helped keep him just three strokes out of the top ten.

Leading the individual board is North Florida’s Chris Kennedy with a 3-under 141.

Championship play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with teams teeing off at holes 1 and 10.
