Eagle Golf Tied for 8th at Shoal Creek Invitational
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The Georgia Southern golf team finished up the first day of competition at the Shoal Creek Invitation played at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club (Sep. 24), marking the second tournament of the 2007-2008 season.
After two rounds, the Eagles share eighth place with LSU in a field of 12 schools, and hold a lead over Michigan State, Nevada and Vanderbilt going into Tuesday’s final round. Georgia Southern carded a 20-over 596, while Texas Tech is leading the board with a 2-over 578, five strokes better than runner-up UAB.
The Eagles are led by junior Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.), both carding a 3-over 147 and sitting tied for 16th place. LeFevre’s 2-under 70 in the second round was the team-low 18 so far in the tournament. Blondell’s 1-under 71 in the second round helped keep him just three strokes out of the top ten.
Leading the individual board is North Florida’s Chris Kennedy with a 3-under 141.
Championship play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with teams teeing off at holes 1 and 10.
