Football Wraps Up 10th Practice Friday Afternoon
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Football team wrapped up its 10th practice Friday afternoon August 12th and continues preparation for the September 3rd opener against Samford. The Eagles plan to practice twice this weekend and again on Monday before a day off on Tuesday.
The Eagles worked on special teams and the option with a 23-session practice. The Eagles return a number of veterans on their special teams' units and are looking to make an impact from play one.
"Those guys have been here for four years and have worked as a unit the whole time. We have great confidence when we put those guys on the field," said Defensive Line/Special Teams Coordinator John Scott, Jr.
Coach Scott also discussed what it takes to play special teams and the importance of the unit in an interview with Eagle Vision. "You have to have a different mentality when you are a part of the special teams. In tight ballgames, if you go back and look, there is usually a play or two that decided the outcome of that game."
Coach Monken is scheduled to sign autographs at the Harveys on Fair Road in Statesboro from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, August 13th. GUS will also be in attendance at the event, presented by Harveys and Coca-Cola of Statesboro.
Inside Georgia Southern Football with Head Coach Jeff Monken and the "Voice of the Eagles" Chris Blair airs each week at 7 p.m. live from Locos Grill and Pub in Statesboro at 7 p.m.
Georgia Southern has just 10 more practice sessions remaining before breaking fall camp and starting classes on Monday, August 22nd. The Eagles practice at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and again at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday before opening the week of August 15th with a two-a-day. All practice sessions on the banks of "Beautiful Eagle Creek" are open to the public.
