Demarcus Watts Named SoCon 'Freshman of the Week'

STATESBORO, Ga. – Demarcus Watts (Atlanta/Grady) earned his first-ever Southern Conference ‘Freshman of the Week’ award, as announced by the conference office Monday (Sept. 29). Watts set a Georgia Southern record during last weekend’s 38-37 overtime loss to Wofford. For Watts it marks his first weekly SoCon award.

Watts caught three passes for 119 yards, the most receiving yards in a game by an Eagle freshman surpassing Terrence Sorrell in 1989 (104 vs. Villanova). His touchdown reception came on a 58-yard scoring strike in the second quarter.

On the year he has caught seven passes for 169 yards (24.1 ypc) and two touchdowns.

The Eagles (2-3 overall, 0-2 SoCon) travel to Chattanooga this Saturday (Oct. 4), kickoff at Finley Stadium scheduled for 6 p.m.
