Eagles Ranked 17th in Sports Network Preseason Poll

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern University will begin the 2008 football season ranked 17th in The Sports Network preseason poll. The national preseason poll was announced Tuesday (Aug. 19).

 

The Eagles, coming off a 7-4 season (4-3 Southern Conference), are one of five SoCon teams ranked among the ‘Top 25’ and six to receive votes.

 

Appalachian State begins the season as the top-ranked team in the Football Championship Subdivision. Wofford was ranked 13th in the poll, followed by: Elon (15th), Georgia Southern, The Citadel (23rd) and Furman (33rd, 120 votes).

 

The Colonial Athletic Association and Missouri Valley Conference each had six teams ranked, followed close behind by the SoCon with five.

 

Georgia Southern begins the 2008 campaign on August 30th at the University of Georgia, the preseason top-ranked team in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The home opener at Paulson Stadium will take place on September 6th against Austin Peay, kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
