Daniel Jordan Named to Academic All-Star Team

STATESBORO, Ga. – Daniel Jordan (Evans/Greenbrier), a senior punter on the Georgia Southern Football team, was named to the 10th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. The squad was announced at the FCS championship game in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

“It's an honor for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association to annually award an academic all-star team in FCS football," said Jim Murphy, chair of the Football Championship Subdivision Academic All-Star Team Selection Committee and athletics director at Davidson College. "These outstanding individuals represent the true meaning of the word student-athlete. We are proud of their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field."

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.

A four-year starter, Jordan ranked third in the Southern Conference and 38th nationally averaging 40.2 yards on 50 punts. Of those 50 punts, Jordan landed 16 inside the 20-yard line.

He set a Georgia Southern record with 179 career punts. He finished every year ranked among the season ‘Top 10’ in punt averages: tied for fifth this year, third in 2006 (41.0 yards), ninth in 2005 (39.5) and second in 2004 (41.1). Jordan’s 40.5 career average finished 0.3 behind the Eagles’ all-time record.

Academically, Jordan owns a 3.76 cumulative GPA majoring in Middle Grades Education.

A special Review Committee of Football Championship Subdivision athletics directors was responsible for selecting the all-star team and scholarship finalists. Completing this task were Peter Fields, Montana State; Marilyn McNeil, Monmouth; Jim Murphy, Davidson (chair); Ron Strollo, Youngstown State; and Donny White, Virginia Military Academy.
