Spring Practice Report #9
The Eagles began the morning practicing offensive and defensive team drills. They later split up into individual and one-on-one workouts before moving on to 11-on-11. The team moved back to offense and defense team drills before calling it a day.
“I thought today was our best practice thus far,” said head coach Chris Hatcher. “It took us nine practices to get the intensity that we wanted, but overall today had to be the best that we’ve had from a competition standpoint and that’s what we’re stressing to the guys. You have to come out everyday and bring your A’ game and today I saw a lot of positives that I hadn’t seen yet during spring practices.”
Hatcher was pleased with the progress and intensity the team has displayed on both sides of the ball since day one of spring practice.
“They did play better,” said Hatcher. “The offense had some good plays, too. It was probably about a 50-50 deal, but that’s what made practice better that our defense stepped up their intensity somewhat. When you get that competition going on it brings everybody’s best out and I think that’s why I consider today’s practice the best we’ve had thus far.”
With less than two weeks before the Blue-White Game (April 12), coach Hatcher and the Eagles are focused on improving each day.
“We’re just trying to get better with all of our fundamentals and we’ve been finalizing our schemes and things of that nature,” said Hatcher. “We’ve just about got everything in that we’ve wanted to do this spring. Then make some final decisions on who’s going to be the guys that go into summer camp as the ones and the twos so that we narrow it down and the young boys can come in and break their luck at the starting lineup.”
