Spring Practice Report #7

STATESBORO, Ga. -- With a good-sized crowd on hand, Georgia Southern football had its seventh day of practice, but this time the Eagles suited up for an afternoon scrimmage, Friday.

The Eagles split up the afternoon practicing field goals, an officiated scrimmage, some punts and some red-zone play to end the day.

“I thought the offense did some good things. And I thought defensively, especially in the secondary, we had some big hits there. As the scrimmage went on I thought our defensive intensity picked up a great deal. So I thought we had a very productive day. We’re working different combinations of guys out there and trying to find the right set of guys to be on the field at any given time. Its spring ball so we’re working a lot of different combinations right now and I think we’re where we need to be,” said head coach Chris Hatcher.

Specifically, coach Hatcher was pleased with the progression of the offensive line.

“They’ve improved a great deal. Dio Herrera is out, but when he’s in he solidifies the inside a little bit more. Each day those guys are getting better and it is something good to see because they are a real young group.”

Today’s practice concluded a two-day coaching clinic that brought in several local and area coaches.

“We had a good crowd and we heard some great speakers,” said Hatcher. “It’s always good to help out the local coaches and the coaches in this area. It gives them a chance to see what we have here at Georgia Southern. We thought it was a big success. It’s something that we like to do and its fun. And I think that everyone that came had a really good time.”
