Scott Earns SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Junior cornerback Laron Scott was named the Southern Conference's defensive player of the week for his performance in Georgia Southern's 38-21 win over 11th-ranked Elon. The players of the week for offense, defense, special teams and freshmen are selected by the league office.
Scott recorded six tackles in Saturday's victory, but his impact on the game came early in the fourth quarter when he picked off Elon's Scott Riddle and returned the interception 36 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 35-14 lead. It was Scott's second career interception return for a touchdown. Scott also played a role in Georgia Southern's first interception against the Phoenix. On Elon's first drive of the game, Scott deflected a pass attempt by Riddle into the hands of teammate E.J. Webb.
