Men's Basketball Signs Five for 2008-09 Season
Joining the team are Nate Blackburn, Tyrone Curnell, Jesse Joseph, Antonio Hanson and Colby Wohlleb.
Blackburn is currently a senior at Graham High School in Graham, N.C. While at Western Alamance High School he averaged 15.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 2006-07 and was an All-Triad 3-A Conference selection.
Curnell, currently attending Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla., is averaging 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Raiders. While at West Orange High School, he was a three-time first team all-conference performer, was named to the all-state second team and posted averages of 17 points and eight rebounds per contest. Curnell played the 2006-07 season at Jacksonville University and in 26 games averaged 9.2 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 54.4 percent from the floor. His 39 steals were second best on the team.
Joseph is recording 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks per game in his second season at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. Joseph, who attended Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Opa Locka, Fla., was named fourth team all-state and second team all-conference.
Hanson currently averages 16.3 points per contest at Independence Community College in Independence, Kan. The sophomore from Liberal, Kan. posted 18 points and seven rebounds per outing at Liberal High School and was a two-time first team all-state honoree and made three all-conference teams.
Wohlleb averaged 20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for North Broward Prep last season. The 6-6 shooting guard qualified for the state’s 3-point shooting contest and recorded career highs of 33 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists in the 2006-07 season. He now attends Boca Raton High School.
“I feel like we covered pretty much all aspects that we feel like we need to replace for next season,” said Price. “We gained some depth up front with some athleticism. We signed a couple of really good perimeter shooters that can stretch the defense and we certainly needed to sign a point guard and we feel like we’ve done that with Antonio Hanson.”
