Donte Gennie Signs Pro Deal with Phoenix Hagen

STATESBORO, Ga. --- Former Georgia Southern standout Donte Gennie has signed a pro contract with German team Phoenix Hagen.

Gennie, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., was a two-time All-Southern Conference honoree and finished his career with 1,288 points, 11th-best in the school’s NCAA Division I history.

Last season Gennie led the team and was fourth in the SoCon averaging 16.2 points per game. He was second in the conference in 3-point percentage (42.9) and fifth in 3-pointers per game. In 2005-06 his 45.2 3-point percentage was tops in the league and third-best in GSU history.

Gennie joins several former GSU players in Europe, including Julius Jenkins (1999-03), Terry Williams (2001-05) and Jean Francois (2002-05).

Phoenix Hagen finished ninth last season in 2.Bundesliga ProA, Germany’s second division, with a 32-28 record. The team, led by head coach Ingo Freyer, has resided in the 2.Bundesliga since being promoted after the 1999-00 season.

The team opens the 2007-08 season Sept. 30 against BBC Bayreuth.
