Eagles Travel to Davidson
DAVIDSON, N.C. Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball plays their final regular season road game on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 28), taking on Southern Conference South Division leader Davidson. Tipoff is scheduled to 2 p.m. as the Eagles continue a stretch of three games in five days in preparation for the SoCon Tournament next weekend.
Chris Blair and Frank Kerns will call the game on Eagle 102.9 FM and via the internet at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. The broadcast will begin 30 minutes before tipoff.
The Eagles (8-19 overall, 5-13 SoCon) are looking to snap a nine-game conference losing streak, falling Thursday at Elon 75-61. Freshman point guard Ben Drayton III (St. Marys/Camden County) turned in career-highs of 26 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Junior Sandy Perry (Perth Amboy, N.J./Barton County CC) scored 11 points and freshman Colby Wohlleb (Boca Raton, FL/Boca Raton) added 10 in the game.
Head coach Jeff Price is also approaching a milestone, needing one more victory to reach 300 in his 16-year head coaching career.
Drayton leads GS scoring 13.9 points in league play and leads the league overall shooting 50.7 percent from 3-point range. With 310 points this year, Drayton moved into fifth place among the Georgia Southern freshman record book Top 5’.
Georgia Southern dropped the previous meeting to Davidson 89-68 last month. A capacity crowd of 4,360 was in attendance at Hanner Fieldhouse for the game. Drayton scored 16 points and Antonio Hanson (Fort Worth, TX/Independence CC) added 14.
Enjoying another day of rest after beating UNC Greensboro on Wednesday night, Davidson snapped a two-game losing streak thanks to a 70-49 win. Stephen Curry turned in a double-double with 20 points/10 rebounds along with his game-high five assists. Andrew Lovedale chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats held a 47-35 edge on the glass and forced 20 UNCG turnovers.
Overall, Curry continues to lead the county scoring 28.3 points per game. He has made 107 3-pointers (38.1 percent) and 172 free throws (86.9 percent) on the year while dishing out 163 assists to 101 turnovers and 72 steals. Lovedale also scores in double-figures at 12.5 points in addition to his 8.8 rebounds. The Wildcats had their SoCon winning streak snapped earlier this month with a home loss to the College of Charleston. Davidson is +50 on assists/turnovers while opponents are -228.
