Men’s Basketball Returns to SoCon Play at Wofford

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball goes back on the road for a Saturday night battle with the Wofford Terriers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg. The Georgia Southern Radio Network will provide live coverage of the game starting at 6:30 p.m.
Georgia Southern (6-9, 0-2 SoCon) leads the all-time series 22-20 against Wofford (6-9, 0-2 SoCon) and took the final game of 2011-12 against the Terriers 63-49 at the friendly confines. GSU, however, is winless in its last five trips to Spartanburg and dropped an 88-63 decision at Wofford last year.
Eric Ferguson has scored a double-double in back-to-back games to lead the Eagles this season. He is averaging 15.9 points per game with 8.0 rebounds per outing. Ferguson ranks second in the SoCon for overall rebounding and gathered 14 boards against North Carolina A&T, tying a career high.
C.J. Reed has 11.5 points per game after dropping 12 points against A&T. Tre Bussey is averaging 11.1 points per game and also had 12 points against the Aggies. Sophomore Kameron Dunnican has been a force of late blocking shots. In the last three games, Dunnican has blocked seven shots, raising his season total to 13 for the year.
Cameron Baskerville leads Georgia Southern from the free throw line with a .947 mark from the stripe. He has made 18-of-19 this season with a perfect 9-for-9 record in the final five minutes of games.
Defending SoCon Freshman of the Year Karl Cochran has 15.1 points per game to lead the Terrier squad which features four underclassmen starters. Overall, 12 of Wofford’s 14 players are freshman and sophomores.
Wofford is also looking for its first league win of the year, entering Saturday’s game 0-2 in league play with losses to Appalachian State (50-49) and Davidson (63-56). The Terriers have lost their last three games after pulling a 56-55 win over Xavier.
The Eagles open a three-game homestand on Monday night against Davidson. Eagle Athletics will honor its outstanding student-athletes for their work in the classroom at halftime of the game which starts at 7 p.m. inside Hanner Fieldhouse. Prior to the game, Eric Ferguson will be honored for joining the 1,000 Point Club at Georgia Southern.
