Ferguson Named Preseason All-SoCon, Eagles Picked Third in South Division

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Georgia Southern Junior Forward Eric Ferguson was named to the 2012-13 Preseason All-Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Team on Thursday following a vote by the league’s head coaches. The Eagles were picked to finish third in the SoCon South Division by both the league’s coaches and media.

A consensus first-team All-SoCon honoree last year, Ferguson enters his junior season with 835 career points. He was picked as RushTheCourt.net’s 2011-12 SoCon Player of the Year, ranking fifth in the league with 15.4 points per game. Last year in the SoCon Tournament, the Eagle matched his career high with 26 points against Chattanooga and 21 more versus Elon to pick up All-Tournament Team honors.

Recently, Ferguson was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team by College Sports Madness along with fellow junior Jelani Hewitt.

Southern was picked to finish third in the SoCon South Division after tying for second place in the division last year. GSU was 15-15 in 2011-12 with a 12-6 mark in league games.
