Georgia Southern Men's Basketball Releases 2010-11 Schedule

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Athletics Department announced the 2010-11 Men's Basketball schedule, which includes 15 games in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Second-year Head Coach Charlton Young worked hard to not only schedule some big-name college basketball programs, but also to restore some of Georgia Southern's historic rivalries.

The Eagles will open the season in South Bend, Ind., on November 12, taking on Notre Dame, and will participate in the South Padre Island Invitational. Georgia Southern plays at South Florida (Nov. 21) and Texas Tech (Nov. 23) as part of the tournament, which concludes with a pair of games in South Padre Island, Texas, on Nov. 26 and 27. The field also includes Liberty, Mississippi Valley State and Chicago State.

Welcoming former TAAC rival Georgia State to Hanner Fieldhouse December 22, the Eagles and Panthers will play in Statesboro for the first time since 1996. South Alabama (Dec. 18) and Eastern Kentucky (January 2) are making their first trips to Statesboro since the '80s.

"I am excited for our fans to be able to rekindle old rivalries in Hanner Fieldhouse with South Alabama, Georgia State and Eastern Kentucky all coming to 'Our House'," Young stated.

The Eagles non-conference road schedule includes traditional power Cincinnati (Dec. 14) and SEC-member Auburn (Dec. 29). Georgia Southern will host Carver Bible College in the first home game of the season on Nov. 15. The Eagles play host to Reinhardt College (Nov. 18) and Brewton-Parker (Dec. 11) in non-conference action.

"I think we have accomplished our goal of putting together a schedule that will challenge us as a team, and prepare us for competition in the Southern Conference," Young stated.

Two Southern Conference matchups put the Eagles in Charleston, S.C., in early December. Georgia Southern opens SoCon play at The Citadel (Dec. 2) and College of Charleston (Dec. 4), before wrapping up the non-conference schedule.

The new year begins with a non-conference game at Hanner Fieldhouse versus Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 2 before the Southern Conference schedule hits full throttle on Jan. 5, when the Eagles play host to Western Carolina. A trip to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State on Jan. 8 precedes a stretch in which the Eagles play five of eight games at home. Georgia Southern will host Wofford (Jan. 13) and Furman (Jan. 15) before traveling to UNC-Greensboro (Jan. 20) and Elon (Jan. 22). The Eagles welcome College of Charleston (Jan. 26) and Davidson (Jan. 31) to Hanner Fieldhouse, then travel to Chattanooga on February 3 before wrapping up the stretch at home against Samford (Feb. 5).

After road games at Furman (Feb. 10), Wofford (Feb. 12) and Davidson (Feb. 16), the Eagles wrap up the regular season with three-straight home games, hosting The Citadel (Feb. 19), UNC-Greensboro (Feb. 24) and Elon (Feb. 26).

"I think this is the perfect schedule for year two for us," Young explained. "We aspire to become a big-time college basketball program, and in order to do that, we have to play the top-level competition and this schedule fits that bill. Playing the likes of Notre Dame, South Florida and Cincinnati will certainly help prepare us for play in the Southern Conference."

Season ticket packages start at just $75 per seat for upper-level seats, with lower-level tickets priced at $125 per seat. Single-game tickets will go on sale in November and are $8 for adults and $4 dollars for children (ages 3-12). A Flex Plan, which includes five tickets that can be used for both men's and women's games, is priced at $25. The five tickets may be used at different games or all at once. Additional information on Men's Basketball season ticket renewals and new season ticket purchases will be released in September.
