Men's Basketball Picked Third in Preseason SoCon Polls
CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Georgia Southern has been picked to finish third in the South Division by both the coaches and media it was announced at the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Thursday in Charlotte.
The South standings were identical in both polls. Davidson, led by preseason Player of the Year Stephen Curry, was a near unanimous pick, garnering 30 of a possible 31 first place votes (coaches could not vote for their own team). They were followed by the College of Charleston, who earned two first-place nods, and Georgia Southern. Wofford, Furman and The Citadel rounded out the division.
Chattanooga received 28 first-place votes to earn the top spot in both North polls. The coaches selected Elon second by one point over Appalachian State for third while the media placed Appalachian State second with two first-place votes and Elon third with one first-place nod. That group was followed by UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina and league-newcomer Samford in both polls.
The Eagles are coming off a 20-12 season and return two starters and nine letterwinners. The season begins Nov. 10 against Houston in Durham, N.C.
