2007-08 Men's Basketball Season Officially Underway
STATESBORO, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern men’s basketball team kicks off the new season Friday with their first practice, to be held at the Recreation Activity Center.
Ninth-year head coach Jeff Price welcomes back nine letterwinners and two starters from last year’s 15-16 team.
“Everybody’s certainly ready to start. We’ve worked hard in conditioning and individuals for quite a while now and I think everybody’s anxious to get on the court and see where we’re at. We’ll find out real soon.”
After slipping from first to seventh in the Southern Conference in scoring average, the team focused on offense during individual workouts, but will be working a lot on defense in the upcoming weeks.
“In our individuals this year we spent a lot more time on offense than we have in the past. So our first two weeks of practice will be focused a lot on defense since we stayed away from that in the preseason because we had some offensive work we needed to do. The first two weeks will be pretty intense and there will be a lot of defense involved.”
When asked about the team’s morale, Price said “It’s great right now. There’s no adversity and we’re not having to face games at the moment so everybody’s excited about practice. The biggest thing we need to understand is we only have four weeks before we open up at Florida State (Nov. 12), so we can’t take days off. We have to get things done from the start.”
