Georgia Southern (4-1 overall) swept Presbyterian in the season-opening series and picked up a split against #8 Georgia Tech during midweek. The Eagles defeated Tech 6-5 on Tuesday in dramatic fashion thanks to A.J. Wirnsberger’s (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) 2-RBI single in the seventh inning. Dexter Bobo (Cumming, Ga.) pitched the final two innings for his first save.

Wirnsberger and Griffin Benedict (Dunwoody, Ga.) continue to lead the offensive attack batting .381 in the early going. Kevin Bowles (Statesboro, Ga.) hit his first career home run in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game against Georgia Tech.

Coppin State (0-1) dropped its season opener to Maryland 16-1 on Tuesday. The CSU Eagles managed one run on three hits in the seven-inning game.

Scheduled to start Friday for Georgia Southern is junior right hander Chris Mederos (Valdosta, Ga.). Mederos pitched a stellar game last Friday against Presbyterian, picking up the win after pitching five-plus innings of one-run ball. Sophomore Andy Moye (Alpharetta, Ga.) and freshman Colin Snow (Alpharetta, Ga.) are scheduled to start Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Senior Elign Thomas is scheduled to take the mound for Coppin State. Thomas made six appearances last season and posted a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings. Freshman Josue Martinez is slated to start Sunday. He got the start against Maryland Tuesday and gave up five runs over three innings.
