David Richardson Named Strength and Conditioning All-America

STATESBORO, Ga. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recently awarded Georgia Southern University senior David Richardson (Dahlonega/Lumpkin County) with its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. The honor recognizes a student-athlete’s dedication to strength training and conditioning.

Richardson is one of 14 Division I players to receive the award. He has made the most of his senior year, batting .350 with 18 runs scored and 20 RBI. Earlier this year (game one at the College of Charleston) Richardson hit for the cycle. He also had a streak of five straight games hitting a home run.

This year, the NSCA awarded 239 collegiate athletes form 165 schools with this esteemed award. Richardson was selected by Georgia Southern's head strength and conditioning coach Tom Melton, CSCS.

“David is an exceptionally hard worker and team leader. He personifies what this award is about; he makes everyone around him better through his dedication and leadership. In fact, he has been voted the Dedication Award winner three out of the last four years by his teammates,” said Melton. “David also won last fall’s Omaha Challenge, a three day competition testing muscular strength, endurance and mental toughness through a variety of events, in dominating fashion.”

Robert Jursnick, NSCA’s Executive Director added, “The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate athletics. These student-athletes attest to this understanding, and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication.”
