STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball squad will be the No. 7 seed in this week's Sun Belt Conference Softball Championships, which begin on Wednesday, May 9, at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with the release of the tournament bracket this afternoon by league officials.
With South Alabama's doubleheader sweep of Troy today, the Jaguars (28-25, 13-13 SBC) move into the No. 6 seed, dropping the Eagles (28-24, 12-15 SBC) to the seventh seed. The two teams will meet on Wednesday in a first-round matchup at 1:30 p.m. ET. The first game of the day will pit No. 5 seed Troy against No. 8 seed UL Monroe.
Should the Eagles defeat the Jaguars, Georgia Southern would then face No. 3-seeded Georgia State at 6:30 p.m. The complete bracket can be viewed here. The 2018 Sun Belt Conference Championship game will take place on Saturday, May 12, at Noon.
Georgia Southern took two of three games from South Alabama earlier this season. This is the Eagles' fourth trip to the Sun Belt Tournament, and Georgia Southern is 0-3 in tournament games since joining the league in 2015.
