
GS Swimming & Diving In Third Place After Day Two Of 2018 CCSA Championships

Eagles earn 143 points in Thursday's action, two more days of competition remain
ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team picked up 143 points on day two of the 2018 CCSA Championships, good for third place, at the Gabrielson Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia on Thursday.
The Eagles have a total of 346 points through the two days of competition, with two more days remaining. Liberty (518) took over first place in the competition with a big second day, while Florida Gulf Coast (496) moved into second place. Incarnate Word (306) is in fourth behind Georgia Southern, with Gardner-Webb (259) in fifth place. Campbell (241), UNC Asheville (224), Howard (103) and North Florida (92) round out the team standings after Day Two.
In the morning preliminaries, the Eagles raced in the 500 Freestyle, the 200 IM and the 50 Freestyle events, qualifying nine individual swimmers for Thursday night's finals.
The first race of the finals on Thursday night was the 500 Freestyle, where Randi Kiser placed 15th in a time of 4:59.55 to pace the Eagles. She qualified for the finals with a time of 4:59.12, which set a new personal best and also ranks as the fourth-fastest in school history.
In the 200 IM, Courtney Schaefer paced the Eagles with a 14th-place finish in a time of 2:05.94, earning 13 points.
The 50 Freestyle was next and the Eagles had several fast swims, with Kaylyn Thomas' 23.31 swim in the prelims the fastest of the day and tied for third-fastest in school history. In the evening session, Morgan Fleming's 23.35 time was the fastest among Georgia Southern swimmers, placing third in the B Final and earning 16 points for the squad.
The 200 Freestyle relay concluded the night and the Eagles finished fourth in a time of 1:33.28, the fastest 200 Free relay time for the Eagles since 2015. The relay swim capped the night by earning 52 points.

Day three begins at 10 a.m. on Friday with six swimming events - the 100 Butterfly, the 400 IM, the 200 Freestyle, the 100 Breaststroke, the 100 Backstroke, the 400 Medley Relay - and the preliminaries of the 1 Meter Diving. Finals in all events will begin at 6 p.m.
