Eagles visit Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Appalachian State on Saturday looking to halt a nine-game slide
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's basketball team embarks on an eastern Sun Belt swing this week, traveling to Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State in search of its first Sun Belt wins of the season.
The Eagles begin the trip on Thursday, facing Coastal Carolina (8-7, 2-2 SBC) at 5 p.m. in Conway, S.C. Georgia Southern (3-12, 0-4 SBC) is looking to halt a nine-game slide, as well as pick up its first win of 2018 and first conference win against a Coastal squad that is an impressive 8-2 at home this season.
Georgia Southern won both matchups last season in Coastal Carolina's first year in the Sun Belt, winning 65-62 in Conway and 78-70 in Statesboro. But to pick up the win, the Eagles are going to have to find their shooting touch - Georgia Southern has not eclipsed 30% shooting from the floor in its four Sun Belt games in 2017-18, and has only shot better than 35% from the floor in four contests this season, going 3-1 in those games.
Coastal Carolina is led by multiple SBC Player of the Week honoree Jas Adams, who leads the league in scoring at 18.5 points per game. The Chanticleers are also arguably the top rebounding team in the league, leading in rebounding margin (+7.3) and ranking second in rebounds per game (42.3 rpg).
You can watch the action via CCUSports.com or listen to Colin Lacy's call on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Live stats are also available.
Saturday, the Eagles travel to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State (3-12, 1-3 SBC) at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers halted a four-game slide on Saturday, defeating UL Monroe, 71-67. Appalachian State is the opposite of Coastal Carolina in that the Mountaineers have been much better on the road (3-6) than at home (0-6).
Georgia Southern and Appalachian State split its meetings last season, with the Eagles winning 53-50 in Statesboro and the Mountaineers winning 73-48 in Boone. The two teams have met 58 times previously, which is the second-most played series Eagle women's basketball history. Georgia Southern holds a 37-21 series lead.
The game will be broadcast live on AppVision, while Colin Lacy will again have the call on the Georgia Southern Sports Netowrk. Live stats are also available.
