STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Basketball revealed its 2017-18 basketball schedule today. The Eagles will play 16 regular season home dates at Hanner Fieldhouse and open up the season on Friday, Nov. 10, at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Eagles' regular season home opener will be three days later, on Nov. 13 as Georgia Southern hosts the College of Coastal Georgia at 5 p.m. Georgia Southern will host one exhibition contest this year, on Oct. 31 against Fort Valley State. Head Coach Kip Drown's overall schedule features games against ten 20-win teams from a season ago and the non-conference slate will give Eagle fans plenty of opportunities to see the team at home in the Fall.
"I feel that our non-conference schedule is a very competitive schedule," Drown said. "We are excited that seven of our 11 non-conference games will be at home, highlighted with a November contest against SEC opponent Alabama."
The Crimson Tide, who went 19-13 a season ago in the rigorous SEC, will visit Hanner Fieldhouse on Sunday, Nov. 19. Other home dates before Christmas include November games against in-state foes Thomas University (Nov. 27) and Savannah State (Nov. 29), and a three-game homestand in December where the Eagles take on Kennesaw State (Dec. 15), IUPUI (Dec. 18) and Stony Brook (Dec. 21).
In addition to the season opener, non-conference road games for the Eagles include trips to Mercer (Nov. 16), South Carolina State (Nov. 21) and Central Florida (Dec. 10).
Sun Belt play begins for Georgia Southern at the end of December, with a two-game road swing to Troy (Dec. 29) and South Alabama (Dec. 31) opening up the conference slate.
"For the second year in a row, we will play an unbalanced schedule in the Sun Belt with single games against Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana and ULM," Drown said. "We will play Little Rock, UTA, Texas State and Arkansas State twice this year after only playing them once last season."
The Eagles play seven games in January, beginning with a weekend homestand against Arkansas State (Jan. 4) and Little Rock (Jan. 16). The longest road trip of the year comes up next as Georgia Southern visits Coastal Carolina (Jan. 11), Appalachian State (Jan. 13) and Georgia State (Jan. 20). The Eagles then wrap up January with home games against Texas State (Jan. 25) and UTA (Jan. 27).
February features seven contests, four of which are on the road, beginning on Feb. 1 at Little Rock and Feb. 3 at Arkansas State. A three-game homestand features ULM (Feb. 8), Louisiana (Feb. 10) and Georgia State (Feb. 17), with a road swing to UTA (Feb. 22) and Texas State (Feb. 24) wrapping up the month.
The Eagles finish off the regular season by hosting South Alabama (March 1) and Troy (March 3) prior to the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on March 6-11 in New Orleans.
