GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ella Ofstedahl shot a 76 to lead the Georgia Southern women's golf team in the second round of the Lady Paladin Intercollegiate Saturday at Furman University Golf Course.
Sarah Noonan fired a 77,
Ansley Bowman shot 78,
Natalie Petersen carded an 80, and
Ashlynn Joyner shot an 84.
Daytona State (-3) maintained its lead on the field, and tournament host Furman (+1) is second. Middle Tennessee (+7) is third, while Kennesaw State (+11) and Virginia Tech are tied for fourth. Georgia Southern (+47) is 16th, nine strokes shy of LSU and Georgia State, which are tied for 14th.
The story
The Eagles teed off on hole 10 today, and Ofstedahl played her final 12 holes even, including a birdie on the par-3 16th and eight straight pars on the front.
Noonan finished her day on a tear. After birdieing the par-4 18th, she ran off five straight pars and capped her round with a birdie on the par-4 9th to shoot 1-over on the front.
Bowman started the round with six straight pars and posted two birdies on her final nine to shoot 2-over on the front, and Petersen played seven holes in the middle of her round 1-under and finished the day with a pair of pars.
Quotable from coach Emily Kuhfeld
"As a team, we got off to a bit of a slow start by not taking advantage of multiple par-5s right out of the gate. We have no doubts that this team can and will accomplish great things. We need to continue to work on taking advantage of the opportunities we make and minimizing multiple mistakes in a row."
"I saw some amazing ball striking from Ella, and I'm proud of Sarah for a bounce-back round today. We know that Ansley, Natalie and Ashlynn will be ready to have strong final rounds for us tomorrow."
Next up
Georgia Southern is paired with Western Carolina, and the Eagles tee off on holes 15-18 in a shotgun start at 9 a.m. in tomorrow's final round.
