GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ansley Bowman shot 76, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team is in 16th after the first day of competition at the Lady Paladin Intercollegiate Friday at Furman University Golf Course.

Natalie Petersen carded a 77, and Ella Ofstedahl shot a 78. Ashlynn Joyner shot an 81, and Sarah Noonan posted an 83.

Daytona State (-4) was the only team under par today and leads the field after posting a 284, and Virginia Tech (E) is second. Furman (+5), Middle Tennessee (+7) and ETSU (+10) round out the top-5. Georgia Southern (+24) is 15 strokes ahead of Western Carolina, one behind Ole Miss and just nine back of cracking the top-10.

The story
Bowman played the back nine 1-under with eight pars and a birdie on the par-5 13th, and Ofstedahl shot 2-over on the front and parred her last two holes of the day.

Petersen made all three of her birdies on the back nine and posted an even 37. After finishing the front with two straight pars, she played holes 10-16 2-under.

Noonan was one of four Eagles to start the day with three straight pars, and Joyner was 3-over on the front after playing the final five holes on that side 1-under.

Quotable from coach Emily Kuhfeld
"I saw some good things out there today from our team. I am proud of Ansley for bouncing back after a few rough holes, of Natalie for having a solid back nine and for Ella in reaching one of her small goals today."

"We have some work to do tomorrow to climb the leaderboard, and it will be another great opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country."
