A Day for Southern Kicks Off on Campus

Athletic Foundation launches peer-to-peer fundraising for the annual campus/community event

Statesboro, GA - On Thursday, August 31, the Georgia Southern campus gathered together on Sweetheart Circle to kick off the annual 'A Day for Southern' fundraising event. The weekling campaign will culminate with a community-wide effort on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Nearly 400 student-athletes proudly represent the University across the nation in competition, academics and service.

However, their education is not free.  Fortunately, the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation and much of Eagle Nation have made the commitment to provide the funds necessary for student-athletes to attend Georgia Southern University, but it's still not enough.

As part of 'A Day for Southern', the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation has launched an online peer-to-peer giving mechanism to support academic scholarships for the student-athletes who play in one of the 17 Division I varsity programs at Georgia Southern University.

Contributions to the Foundation make it possible for Georgia Southern student-athletes to achieve their goals in competition, in the classroom and in life.  The new peer-to-peer fundraising platform will make it easy for Georgia Southern alumni, friends and family to donate to the Eagle Fund, as part of the True Blue 120 initiative.

Scholarship funds for student-athletes are primarily raised through the Eagle Fund, the Foundation's annual fund. The Eagle Fund helps Athletics offset the $4,660,301 they must pay the University in student-athlete scholarships, which covers tuition and other fees associated with college expenses.

The peer-to-peer fundraising platform will not only allow donors to easily make contributions in support of Georgia Southern student-athletes, but it will also allow Eagles to become advocates for the student's education as well.  Peer-to-peer fundraising will provide a greater reach for Georgia Southern Athletics to share stories, build a wider support base and maintain seamless transactions for Refer-an-Eagle.
