GS Men's Soccer Hosts 2017 Coaching Symposium
8/25/2017 9:30:00 AM | Men's Soccer
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern head men's soccer coach John Murphy and his staff will host a coaching symposium on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, 2017. This two night event, which will include a game ticket for Saturday evening's game against Mercer University, will be held in the Gene Bishop Fieldhouse located at Paulson Stadium.
"This is our second year hosting this event and we look forward to a great response from the local and regional soccer community. This is a unique instructional format that I experienced quite a bit when I was working in Scotland," Murphy said. "It allows interested parties, regardless of their coaching level, to exchange thoughts, learn about teaching methods and philosophy and watch a very good match in a flexible, inexpensive format. I feel this will fit coaches of all levels, particularly high school and club teams. Additionally, we are getting a great response on campus from students who are in sports management, sports science and physical education tracts. We hope to have a good attendance for this event so we can continue to offer similar professional development opportunities to the community throughout the year."
The coaching symposium, which costs $30.00 per coach and includes a game ticket, handouts of notes and methods as well as a raffle ticket for Adidas items, will be open to both male and female coaches of any level. Any Georgia Southern student with a current student ID can attend for $15.00 each. Friday night's session will run from 7:00 to 9:00pm, with Saturday's match analysis starting at 6:00pm at Erk Russell Park for a 7:00pm kick off. The event will include discussion of training themes, methods and rhythms accompanied by video footage in the classroom. The staff will highlight how scouting and analysis is used in the modern game and how it could be applied to any coach's preparation.
This event will give coaches in attendance the chance to learn insights from the only American born coach to hold both the prestigious UEFA Pro Badge (Scottish Football Association) and a Certificate of Applied Football Management from University of Warwick (English Professional League Manager's Association) in Coventry, England. Murphy is an author of two books and two instructional DVDs as well as a well-known clinician nationwide.
The event will start with sign-in and registration at 6:30 p.m. in the Gene Bishop Fieldhouse Friday night. Following the game, Murphy and staff will conduct a post-match analysis. The day will conclude with a coach's social at the Clubhouse located at 2704 Old Register Road.
