STATESBORO, GA. - Nine returning members of the Georgia Southern Baseball program set out this summer to continue to work on their game in six league around the East Coast.
Chase Cohen and
Seth Shuman played together with the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League, while
Tyler Martin and
Lawson Humphries joined on the Strausburg Express in Virginia's Valley League.
Roury Glanton led his league in home runs and RBIs while
Brian Eichhorn was called on to start game one of the Cape Cod League Championship Series.
Brian Eichhorn - Bourne Braves - Cape Cod League
Eichhorn did outstanding work for the Bourne Braves, going 3-2 with a 3.57 ERA in eight starts with 38 strikeouts. He worked 40.1 innings and was handed the ball for game one of the Cape Cod League Championship Series. He went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned while scattering three hits with seven strikeouts. He got the no decision after the Braves scored two runs to tie the game at 4-4 with two outs in the ninth inning.
Roury Glanton - Piedmont Pride - Southern Collegiate
Glanton was outstanding for the Piedmont Pride in 2017, ranking second on the team with a .373 batting average. He led the league with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs in 37 games with just 15 strikeouts. He was named to the Southern Collegiate All-Star Team and helped the Pride with the 2017 Southern Collegiate Baseball League Championship.
Tyler Martin - Strausburg Express - Valley League
Martin hit .268 with six home runs and 37 RBIs in 47 contests to serve as a consistent producer for the Express while patrolling the outfields of the Valley League. He had 10 doubles for a .418 slugging percentage in the regular season. In nine games of the postseason, he raised his average to .303 while striking out just three times.
Chase Cohen - Cotuit Kettleers - Cape Cod League
Cohen had a solid summer in the nation's premier summer baseball league, posting a 3-2 record and a 2.73 ERA in 10 appearances. He worked 26.1 innings to rank third on the team in terms of workload with 19 strikeouts.
Seth Shuman - Cotuit Kettleers - Cape Cod League
Following a Freshman All-American campaign in 2017, Shuman went 1-2 for the Kettleers in eight appearances and six starts. He fanned 19 in 22.2 innings while recording a 6.35 ERA.
Eric Goldstein - Winter Park Diamond Dawgs - Florida Collegiate League
Goldstein worked 11 games in 2017 for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs, scattering 10 hits and two earned runs over 17.1 innings of work. He posted a team-best 1.03 ERA with three saves
Lawson Humphries - Strausburg Express - Valley League
Humphries was named a Valley League All-Star, posting a 1-2 record in 22 total appearances out of the bullpen. He posted a 4.45 ERA in 28.1 innings of work with three saves. He struck out 26 batters on the season and dropped his ERA to 1.91 in four postseason outings.
C.J. Ballard - Wilson Tobs - Coastal Plain League
Ballard started 32 games for the Wilson Tobs, posting a .234 average with eight doubles and two triples. He stole seven bases and slugged .328 on the year.
Jacob Parker - Alexandria Aces - Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League
After redshirting in 2017 for the Eagles, Parker made 10 appearances for the Alexandria Aces, going 2-1 over 16.1 innings of work. He struck out 18 batters with 19 walks.
