Players Returning
Coastal Carolina joins the Sun Belt and adds a full Sun Belt Conference slate for the first time in program history, but is bowl ineligible just like GS was back in 2014. Senior quarterback Tyler Keane returns for his final season at the helm of the Chanticleers' offense. Keane played in 10 games last season, hitting on 67 of 105 passes for 809 yards and 10 TDs. Keane loses his favorite target in Bruce Mapp, but still has senior Chris Jones. Jones caught 22 passes for 323 yards and two TDs in 2016. Jones will be joined by Omar Black and Laquay Brown, who both totaled eight catches for 112 yards and two TDs. Osharmar Abercrombie will fill the void at running back, after only carrying the ball 74 times for 396 yards and four TDs last season. The Chanticleer defense lost leading tackler and linebacker Alex Scearce to graduation. Shane Johnson is slated to fill the gap after being second on the team in tackles with 66.
Series History
Georgia Southern currently leads the series 3-0 over the Chanticleers. The last meeting the Eagles defeated the Chanticleers 43-26 in Brooks stadium on September 18, 2010.
