Players Returning
South Alabama looks to make it consecutive bowl appearances in 2017 after falling to Air Force in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl last season. Quarterback Dallas Davis returns for his second season at the helm of the Jaguars' offense. The receiving corps has dwindled, losing the top four pass catchers from last season, including NFL draftee Gerald Everett. Jordan McCray, Sam Harris and Maaseiah Francis will lead the Jaguars' aerial attack in 2017, combining for 18 catches for 409 yards and 2 TDs. Running back Xavier Johnson returns after recording 151 carries for 864 yards and 10 TDs in 2016. The South Alabama defense returns defensive linemen Tyree Turner and Finesse Middletown who combined for 14 TFL in 2016. Middletown also racked up 4.5 sacks. Darrell Songy leads the linebacking unit, while Jalen Thompson, Devon Earl, and Jeremy Reeves will patrol the Jaguars' secondary.

Georgia Southern currently leads the series 3-0 over the Jaguars. The last meeting was Sept. 10, 2016, when the Eagles defeated the Jaguars 24-9 in Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
