Players Returning
Senior running back Jordan Chunn, completed the 2016 season as the leading rusher for the Trojans. Chunn produced five 100-plus yard games, and reached the end zone in 10 games. The senior finished 2016 with 279 carries for 1,288 yards and 16 TDs. The Trojans will also return their leading receiver to support Chunn. Senior Emanuel Thompson led all receivers in catches, yards, and was tied for the lead in TDs with Deondre Douglas. Brandon Silvers also returns for the Trojans as the starting quarterback heading into game one. Silvers completed 293 of his 460 pass attempts last season, racking up 3,180 yards and 23 TDs. Silvers was only sacked seven times last season and threw only 12 interceptions. The Trojans' defense will be without leading tackler William Lloyd this season. Lloyd graduated in 2016, after leading the team in tackles with 70. Kris Weatherspoon returns to play safety after recording 52 tackles and one interception. The defensive line for 2017 will have some new faces as Rashad Dillard and Demetrius Cain graduated in 2016. Both Dillard and Cain led the Trojans in sacks last season with 7.5 and 4.0, respectively. Baron Poole III will have to step into the leadership role after recording 3.5 sacks last season.
Series History
Troy currently lead the series against the Eagles, 10-6. The last meeting was the Eagles' fourth straight victory over Troy, coming on Dec. 3, 2016, a 28-24 victory in Paulson Stadium.
