STATESBORO, GA. - Georgia Southern Baseball had three more student-athletes selected on Wednesday in the final day of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Connor Simmons,
Logan Baldwin, and
Jacob Condra-Bogan each had their names called as the Eagles recorded a draft class for the ages.
Wednesday's three selections joined
Landon Hughes and
Jordan Wren in tying the largest draft class in Georgia Southern Baseball history. The 1996 Eagles saw Tommy Peterman (11th round), Julio Ayala (11th round), Mark Hamlin (24th round), Steven Wilson (27th round) and Jon Phillips (40th round) earn selections.
Connor Simmons was the first Eagle to be drafted in day two when the Atlanta Braves selected the junior 380th overall pick in the 13th round. The left-handed pitcher owns a 3.52 ERA in 76 career appearances over 145.2 innings of work. He went 4-1 in 2017 with a 2.39 ERA.
Junior
Logan Baldwin got his call later on Wednesday afternoon when the San Francisco Giants selected the outfielder from Ringgold, Georgia. Baldwin was selected No. 636 overall in the 21st round after hitting .308 for the second-straight season. He has four career home runs including the most memorable grand slam in program history in the ninth inning against Louisiana to keep the Eagles alive in the 2017 Sun Belt Championship.
Graduate student
Jacob Condra-Bogan only played one season for the Eagles, but his work on the mound earned him a 32nd round selection from the Toronto Blue Jays. He went 5-3 this season with a 4.50 ERA and 53 strikeouts for the Eagles.
